What Are Bank Updates?

When a bank merges or acquires another institution it might not change much. In fact, you may still be able to go to the same branches and get help from the same people.

You can edit your banking information at any time unless we’re currently processing payments. Then, your changes will be applied during the next monthly payment processing cycle.

Change of Address

Bank updates allow customers to change the bank information associated with their account. They can edit their current bank statement, or replace it with a new one. If you make changes to your bank information while payments are in process, the change won’t take effect until the next payment cycle. Once logged into their Taulia portal, users can select the “Bank Accounts” tab and make changes to their bank accounts. Once the information is correct, a button labeled “Apply Change” will appear and the change will be applied to their Square payments moving forward.

It is important to update your address with banks, credit card companies and utility providers because these institutions can be a source of identity theft. In addition, it is wise to update your address with financial institutions that report your data to credit agencies to avoid missing important statements and alerts.

Most banks’ computers update overnight but it is not instantaneous. The exact time varies from bank to bank but is generally between 7pm and 7am. This is because it would be a huge logistical nightmare for the entire banking industry if all the banks updated at exactly the same time. For example, the bank I work at begins their computer update at about 7pm and is generally done by 7am. This allows the bank to get all of the accounts in their database up to date in a timely manner and minimizes potential errors caused by having millions of accounts update at once.

Change of Password

When you change your password, the old one is canceled immediately and no longer can be used. You must use the new password to access your online banking account.

If you are changing your bank information and you have active payments, the change won’t take effect until all of them are processed in your next payment cycle. You can still edit your bank information after that, but the changes won’t be applied to payments you already made.

Most banks update their computers at night and it takes a while to update millions of accounts, even when they are just updating one account at a time. If all of them were updated at the same time there would be a system collapse. That’s why it doesn’t happen at a specific time.

Change of Account Holder Name

Whether you change your name at the Department of Motor Vehicles, with your bank, or at any other company you do business with, be sure that all your information is updated to reflect the correct legal name. This will avoid any confusion that could lead to late or missed payments.

The information you enter in the Account Holder Name field must match what your bank has on file. If you’re unsure what your bank has, check a recent statement or ask a representative. Only the English alphabet can be used in this field. However, if your bank is located in Japan and uses the Japanese katakana alphabet, you can use that in this field as well.

You must save the changes to complete your bank update. After the update is saved, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Square within 24 hours. Click the link in that email to verify that you want your changes to take effect. If you don’t click the link, the new information won’t be accepted and your payment could be rejected.

Change of Account Type

If you change your bank account type associated with a Square payment, you will need to verify the new information within 24 hours to ensure the change is saved. You can do this by clicking the link provided in the email sent to you by Square.

If the update happens while a payout is in transit, that payout will be sent to the old account type until the process is complete. This means you will need to edit your bank account information again, and the new information won’t be applied to any payments made until this is completed.

To change your account type, you must be in Chart of Accounts view and the parent account must have a balance. Then, click the edit button next to the account you want to change and select an option. You will need to do this for each subaccount that is attached to the account you want to change before changing the parent account type.

It’s rare for an account type to be mismatched, but it can happen if the download from your bank describes an investment as a savings or vice versa. This can also occur if a loan account is converted to an asset account, or vice versa. If you are unable to change the account type of an existing loan account, it may be best to create a new one in the desired type and then close the existing one.
